What is considered the lower extremity?

The lower extremity is subdivided into the thigh or upper leg (between the hip and knee joints), lower leg (between knee and ankle), and the foot (your midfoot/rearfoot and forefoot, calcaneus and distally). There are more than 30 bones in each of your lower extremities.

What is considered the Upper extremity?

The upper extremity, also referred to as upper limb or arm, is a functional unit of the upper body. It consists of three sections: the upper arm, the forearm, and the hand. It extends from the shoulder joint to the fingers and contains 30 bones. It also consists of many nerves, blood vessels (arteries and veins), and muscles.

Orthopedic Conditions and Treatment

hip pain treatment

Hip

Hip or groin pain may be a result from specific conditions involving the bones, muscles, tendons or ligaments surrounding o the hip joint.  Possible causes for hip pain or pain include: hip fracture, impingement, labral tear, a muscle or tendon strain, osteonecrosis, osteoarthritis, or tendinitis.

If you have hip pain while resting or sleeping, notice joint stiffness or redness, swelling, warmth around the joint, or your pain will not go away, please call us immediately for an evaluation. You can discuss your non-surgical or surgical treatment options with one of our hip specialists. Learn more about the hip conditions we treat here.

shoulder pain treatment

Shoulder

The shoulder is the most mobile joint in the human body. The structures allow for extreme degrees of motion in multiple planes of the body that predispose it to instability events. A group of four muscles and their tendons, called the rotator cuff, give the shoulder its wide range of motion. Several factors and conditions may contribute to shoulder pain. The most common cause of shoulder pain occurs when rotator cuff tendons become trapped under the bony area in the shoulder. The tendons become inflamed or damaged. This condition is called rotator cuff tendinitis or bursitis.

Shoulder pain may have causes not due to underlying disease, like overuse, disuse, sprain, strain, or sleeping on side. Shoulder injuries are frequently caused by athletic activities that involve excessive, repetitive, overhead motion, such as playing basketball, tennis, swimming, baseball pitching, or lifting weights. Injuries may also occur during everyday activities. Learn more about the shoulder conditions we treat here.

hand, wrist and elbow pain

Hand, Wrist and Elbow

Hands, wrists and elbows require delicate care. If you are experiencing hand, wrist or elbow pain the functionality of performing daily tasks will be limited, as our hands require sensation and movement, such as joint motion, tendon gliding and muscle contraction. It is advisable to seek a diagnosis and treatment for discomfort, pain or stiffness in your arm, hand, sharp pain in your elbow or any of these areas.

Our hand and wrist specialists have the training and clinical expertise for a comprehensive evaluation to determine the cause of your pain or condition. We provide specialized patient care for a wide variety of injuries and disorders of the hand, wrist, arm and elbow including carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, hand and wrist fracture, ligament injuries and wound care.

Knee pain treatment

Knee

The knee is the largest joint and one of the most important joints in the body. It plays an essential role in movement related to carrying the body weight in horizontal (running and walking) and vertical (jumping) directions.

Our orthopedic specialists know the most innovative technologies and surgical techniques for treating knee injuries and conditions. Learn more about the knee conditions we treat here, including robotic knee replacement surgery

Total Joint Replacement, Hip and Knee

Total joint replacement is also called arthroplasty, or total joint reconstruction. It is a surgical procedure in which parts of an arthritic or damaged joint is removed and replaced with a metal, plastic, or ceramic device called a prosthesis. The prosthesis is designed to replicate the movement of a normal, healthy joint. Total hip replacement surgery or total knee replacement surgery are the most common joint replacements, but replacement surgeries for other joints such as ankle replacement or shoulder replacement, are also offered.

Our hip and knee replacement specialists proudly provide revolutionary non-muscle cutting, robotic-arm assisted minimally invasive surgery techniques, for smaller incisions, shorter hospital stays and faster post-op recovery times. Please ask us about the non-muscle cutting, robotic direct anterior hip replacement or Hudanich Orthopedics® 3-in-1 non-muscle cutting, robotic-arm assisted knee replacement surgery.
